Charlecote Park

On the 12th of July 2010 we visited the National Trust property, Charlecote Park, which is situated in Wellesbourne, Warwick. Before we visited the property we stopped off at The Golden Bee, in Stratford Upon Avon, a Wetherspoon's where we enjoyed an early breakfast before driving the short distance to the National Trust property.

Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly enthusiastic staff who were keen to sign us up as members of the Trust. We took the literature they offered us, on the promise we would think about it as we looked around and spent the day in their company. We weren't to be disappointed. The weather warm and sunny, allowed us to spend plenty of time outside the property in the gardens as well as time to take a walk in the deer park.

We found plenty to inspire us, a walk around the beautiful house which attracted an amazing 87,000 visitors last year alone was just the beginning.

The house was home to the Lucy family for over 700 years, since the 15th century, and is a splendid Tudor house. There are many portraits hanging on the walls, each showing different family members down through the ages.

Mary Elizabeth Lucy extensively remodelled the house in Victorian times, sparing no expense, the lavish decor makes you feel you are visiting somewhere very special.

We spent plenty of time walking around the grounds admiring the scenery and generally chilling out, I took several pictures, and we managed to see the deer which was a bonus. All of this made us thirsty and we visited the cafe restaurant several times during our day for cups of tea.

Across the road from the main house, next to the car park and the entrance for purchasing your ticket there is a wonderfully stocked garden centre, full of beautifully cared for plants and where fresh produce is sold. Business was brisk and there was lots on offer.
